Rhodochrosite

Rhodochrosite is Greek for 'rose coloured' referring to the transparent crystal form that rarely occurs. The crystals can be faceted, but are the reserve of collectors. The common form is a compact aggregate with bands of light and dark material, coloured raspberry red and yellow in zigzag patterns. The aggregate is made into cabochons and beads, larger pieces are made into carvings.

Source locations for rhodochrosite include: Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Peru, South Africa and USA.
